Well, they asked him and he replyed. What do you guys think? I am sorta stuck in the middle on it, if its flown to show rememberance for the confederate army/ civil war. I dont really have a problem with it. It is in fact a part of our history, like it or not. However, some wave it as a sign of intimidation. I do not support that, Im not sure we should try and erase it from our memory or our sight.

I don't have a problem with it when done appropriately. Some these rednecks that fly it truly give it a bad name. There are arguments for it and against it. Being a history buff, I am for it, and proud of our past in the South even though many may disagree with it.

Im fine with it as long as it is flown appropriately as well. Its our history, good or bad.

Its a fine line for sure. Look at it this way, the swastika in sanscrit means good and represents life, the sun, power, strength, and good luck as well as being 3000 years old and used by many cultures on nearly every continent. While it had good meanings, most think of it as representing aryan supremacy and the holocaust. I believe that the flag and the swastika have more negative connotations than positive and in most cases those symbols are misrepresented with the purpose of disrespect towards certain groups. Do people from the south have alot to be proud of? Sure they do, but Hitler did alot for German nationalism and rebuilding Germany after disobeying Versailles. German people had alot to be proud of then too. The flag is hurtful to alot of people for various reasons. I think I would be a proud person to be able to make others happy. That would make me prouder than to just see a flag flying. Too many people dont know what that flag stands for anyway so why would you want them to represent it, especially in the negative light that its portrayed.

My main point that I was getting at is, the flags mean 1 thing to some people and something completely different to another. The swastika means good things to the hindus and buddhist, whereas everyone else deems it as evil, inhumane and antisemitic. The flag doesnt mean much to me either way. I am a descendent of Robert E Lee and Im sure most of us have family ties to the civil war but Im really apathetic about the flag.

I'll tell you this Nola, every year, at least once, there was world war 3 at the park. Somebody would always pull up with a flag in their window and the southside gang would usually go black panther on em [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I have no idea what happened to my post, but I see what your sayin. Its just so weird to see how things mean different things to various people.
My grandfather was Jewish, which in recent times I have learned and has changed my out look on many things. Makes you take a look at the world in a different light at times.

speaking of you being related to Robert E. Lee, did you see the episode of 30 Rock where Tracy Morgan found out he was related to Thomas Jefferson?


I think alot of ppl acted more offended then they truely are because they feel they have to.
